Important Pediatric Readiness Assessment
A very important national initiative is underway to assess the readiness of our nation’s emergency departments to care for ill and injured children. Since managing seriously ill or injured children is a low frequency event of high importance, it is essential that the right resources are in place to successfully manage these cases.
All hospitals in Minnesota are asked to complete the Pediatric Readiness Assessment. The online questionnaire will evaluate your hospital’s capacity to provide the right care with the right resources at the right time to an ill or injured child. Upon completion, you will receive immediate feedback about your hospital’s readiness and you will be able to benchmark your hospital against aggregated national results. Your individual hospital’s results are included in the aggregate data but cannot be identified. National data can then be used to recognize needs in our industry and target resources toward those needs. To date, 24 percent of Minnesota hospitals have responded. (California achieved 90 percent participation!)
The Pediatric National Readiness Project is a cooperative initiative of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Emergency Physicians, the Emergency Nurses Association and Emergency Medical Services for Children.
Please work with leaders in your hospital to ensure that every Minnesota hospital is represented in this important initiative! For more information visit pedsready.org or contact Kjelsey Kluge at Minnesota Emergency Medical Services for Children, (612) 813-6939.
