Latent Tuberculosis Infection (LTBI) Treatments
The following LTBI treatments are available through the TB Medications Program:
4R (4 months of daily rifampin)
3HP (12 weekly dosings of isoniazid and rifapentine)
- Patient must be > 2 years of age.
- Refer to LPH if directly observed therapy (DOT) assistance needed based upon individual patient increased risk of treatment failure or in patients deemed high-risk for progression to severe forms of TB disease.
- MDH recommends use of enhanced monitoring to ensure adherence and evaluate for side effects (communication with patient on days of medication administration).
9H (9 months of daily isoniazid)
For use only if patient has birth control considerations or other medical indication. Otherwise, MDH recommends use of 4R or 3HP.
9 months of daily Levofloxacin (< 15 years of age) or Moxifloxacin (> 15 years of age)
For use in a verified contact to Multidrug Resistant (MDR) TB only.
