Health Equity Learning Community
Stories of Community Engagement | September 2018
As both a partner to and funder of local public health departments, the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) has the opportunity to influence local practice and accelerate change. The MDH Center for Public Health Practice is taking more intentional steps to catalyze change. Coming together in a learning community allows MDH and our partners to explore innovation. This fall, we will launch our second cohort of local public health partners to seed and diffuse transformation across Minnesota’s public health system.
"We want our efforts around health equity to be part of a larger community driven plan that creates a culture of health. We do what we do because we are motivated not only to help, but to do so in ways that promote justice and equity. We are ready to plunge deeper into the good work of open dialogue where we try new practices, learn from ourselves, our community and others, and adapt to our ever changing needs as a whole people living in community together." - Local public health partner
Through structure and support for risk taking and mutual learning, learning communities facilitate rapid, collective progress toward a common goal. Engaging in this learning together, we co-create the transformation necessary to assert public health’s central role in advancing health equity.
