Human illness due to Ehrlichia muris subspecies eauclairensis was first identified in 2009. Since then, an average of 5-6 cases have been reported in Minnesota residents each year. A small number of human illnesses due to Ehrlichia chaffeensis are reported each year in Minnesota, some of which have traveled to southern states where the disease is more common.
