Shingles Basics

Vaccine is recommended for most adults 50 years of age and older to prevent shingles.

  • Shingles (Herpes Zoster)
    General information about shingles, including symptoms, complications, treatment, and vaccination.
  • CDC Vaccine Information Statement (VIS) includes a description of the disease, who should get the vaccine and when, who should not be vaccinated, and potential side effects.
    • Recombinant Shingles VIS
      Two doses, 2 to 6 months apart, are recommended for adults 50 and older.
    • Live Shingles VIS
      The recommended schedule for live shingles vaccine is a single dose for adults 60 years of age and older.
