Newborn Screening Critical Congenital Heart Disease Glossary
- Refusal: CCHD screening was declined and MDH received documentation of the refusal.
- Delay: CCHD screening was declined and MDH received documentation of the delay.
- Pass: pulse ox results ≥ 95% in hand and foot, with ≤ 3 percentage points difference between hand and foot.
- Fail: pulse ox results are ≤ 89% in hand or foot, OR pulse ox results are ≥3 percentage points difference between hand and foot, OR it is the third screen and the pulse ox result is ≤ 95% in hand and foot.
- Rescreen Required: the pulse ox result is ≤ 95% in hand and foot OR pulse ox results are ≥ 3 percentage points difference between hand and foot, and it is NOT the infant’s 3rd screen.
- Physician Override: CCHD screen result selected for infants who do not receive a pulse ox screen due to congenital heart disease or other condition being detected prior to screening.
- No repeat screen performed: CCHD suggested screening result indicated “Rescreen Required,” but no repeat screen was performed.
- Extra second/third screen: Infant’s screen result was “Pass” or “Fail,” yet a another screen was still performed.
- Missing either hand or foot: Only the hand or foot results is reported, instead of both the hand and foot.
- Chosen result different than suggested result: A different result was selected from the autogenerated “suggested screen result” that appears based on the uploaded CCHD screen results.
