Psychological First Aid Training: Refugee Health
Applying the Principles of Psychological First Aid, Resilience, and Wellbeing in Situations of Chronic Threat
The Minnesota Department of Health, along with the Center for Victims of Torture (CVT), will be hosting free Psychological First Aid training sessions between September and November 2026.
Three (3) identical virtual sessions will be offered! Please choose the date and time that works best for your schedule.
Description
Psychological First Aid helps people who have experienced a personal crisis, a traumatic event or a disaster. In this training, participants will learn to
- Use Psychological First Aid principles to help people who are facing ongoing disruptions.
- How to have safe, calm conversations with people in distress.
- Help stabilize and refer community members in need.
- Understand the importance of self-care through periods of chronic stress, learning and sharing strategies.
Presenter
Liyam Eloul is a trauma therapist and clinical supervisor specialized in building professional and community capacity in humanitarian contexts. She has served as a clinical advisor for mental health for CVT for 12 years and is the co-lead of the staff well-being trainers’ group. Ms. Eloul has an MA in international disaster psychology from the University of Denver, a post-graduate certificate in applied psychosocial interventions for refugees and forced migrants from the American University in Cairo and a BA in psychology from Queen’s University.
Training dates and registration
