Allina Health United Hospital Public Hearing

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) held a public hearing on December 21, 2023, at 6 p.m. on the relocation of adolescent mental health beds from Allina Health United Hospital in St. Paul to Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

According to the submission filed by Allina Health United Hospital there will be no reduction in overall mental health services. In-patient adult mental health services will continue to be provided at United Hospital in St. Paul, with adolescent in-patient services being relocated to Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis.

The Minnesota Department of Health serves as a facilitator to ensure there is public discussion and engagement for any proposed closure, reduction of services or relocation of services for a hospital or hospital campus as outlined in Minnesota Statutes Section 144.555.

This statute gives MDH the authority to hold the meeting and to inform the public but not to change, delay or prevent the proposed changes, closures or relocations.
