Tips for Using MWI

  • Recommended Web browsers for this application are:
    Google Chrome (45 or higher)
    Mozilla Firefox (38 or higher)
  • This application is designed for tablets, laptops, and personal computer screens. A resolution of 1280 by 1024 or higher is recommended for optimal display.
  • Information from unverified wells should be used with caution and should not be used for site-specific evaluations. Locations for unverified wells were derived from the descriptive location reported on the well construction record and their accuracy has not been confirmed.
  • The MWI application may load slowly depending on your internet speed. MWI does not support the use of "Back" or "Forward" commands. Instead, use the navigation within the application. Click ‘Help’ to see frequently asked questions about the MWI application.

How to Request Records

  • IMPORTANT: Record requests are served in the order they are received. Due to high demand, your request may take up to 5-7 business days. Well record requests sent to the MWI technical support email will not be served.
  • Record requests sent to personal emails of MDH staff may take longer than the options listed below. Your email requests will be answered or forwarded to the appropriate MDH staff. Do not send requests to multiple emails.
  • If you are unable to find Well and Boring Construction Records and/or Well and Boring Sealing Records in MWI, please contact MDH Well Management Section at health.wells@state.mn.us. Please note that the majority of well sealing records are not available in MWI. MDH began licensing well contractors and requiring submittal of well records in 1974. As a result, majority of wells constructed prior to 1974 will not be on file at MDH.
  • If you are looking for previously filed Well Disclosure Certificates or clarification on well disclosure requirements at property transfer, please contact MDH Well Management Section at health.welldisclosures@state.mn.us.
  • Due to federal security requirements, wells supplying public water systems are not displayed in MWI. If you need access to information about public water systems, please contact the Drinking Water Protection Program at health.drinkingwater@state.mn.us or 651-201-4700.
