The University of Minnesota, in partnership with Minnesota Department of Health, will again offer a residency preparatory program for international medical graduates. The faculty leads for this program are Drs. Hope Pogemiller, and Michael Westerhaus. This nine–month program will consist of inpatient and outpatient training opportunities as well as community and classroom based components to optimally prepare participants to match into and succeed in residency programs. Participants will be selected through a competitive application and based on meeting the eligibility requirements as well as readiness for residency, personal initiative, ambitions, and motivations for desiring to complete residency, previous clinical experience, and future goals as a practicing professionals.
The eligibility requirements are:
- MD degree or international equivalent
- ECFMG Certification
- Passing score on USMLE Steps 1 & 2 within 3 attempts
- Born outside the United States
- Now resides permanently in the United States as a citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident
- Has resided in Minnesota for at least 2 years by January 1, 2022
- Did not enter the United States on a J1 or similar nonimmigrant visa following acceptance into a United States medical residency or fellowship program
Interested applicants should submit ALL of the following by June 1, 2021, at 4:00 pm CST:
- Written Application (attached);
- ECFMG Certification;
- USMLE Transcripts for Step 1&2 or email confirmation that MDH has the transcript from a prior application;
- Complete medical school transcript;
- 2 letters of reference (from colleagues or those who can comment on your character);
- C.V. that includes all clinical experience and activities since medical school graduation;
Applications will be considered incomplete if any of the above items are not received by June 1, 2021. Incomplete applications will not be considered for interviews.
Former applicants who submitted their USMLE transcripts in the past may contact Yende Anderson by email to receive an email confirmation that MDH has the transcript from a prior application.
