In 2024, 19,703 chlamydia cases (344.6 per 100,000 population) were reported. This is a 9% decrease compared to 2023. The chlamydia rate was highest among 20-to-24-year-olds (1,775 per 100,000), followed by the 15-to-19-year-old age group (1,291 per 100,000). The incidence of chlamydia among adults 25 to 29 years of age (921 per 100,000) was considerably lower but has increased in recent years. The chlamydia rate among females (440 per 100,000) was nearly twice the rate among males (249 per 100,000), most likely due to more frequent screening among females.
Chlamydia infection incidence was highest in communities of color. The rate among Black non-Hispanics (1,437 per 100,000) was 9.4 times higher than the rate among white non-Hispanics (154 per 100,000). Although Black, non-Hispanic persons comprise approximately 7% of Minnesota’s population, they accounted for 31% of reported chlamydia cases. Rates among Asian/Pacific Islanders (246 per 100,000), Hispanic, any race (842 per 100,000), and American Indian/Alaska Natives (948 per 100,000) were 5.5 to 6.2 times higher than the rate among white, non-Hispanic persons. Chlamydia infections occurred throughout the state, with the highest reported rates in Minneapolis (1,042 per 100,000) and St. Paul (822 per 100,000). Every county in Minnesota had at least one cases in 2024.
