In 2023, 7,727 gonorrhea cases (135.2 per 100,000 population) were reported. This was a five percent decrease compared to 2022 (Table Title). Adolescents and young adults are at greatest risk for gonorrhea (Table Title), with rates of 318 per 100,000 among 15 to 19- year-olds, 507 per 100,000 among 20 to 24-year olds, and 374 per 100,000 among 25 to 29-year-olds. Gonorrhea rates for males (160 per 100,000) were higher than females (110 per 100,000).
Communities of color are disproportionately affected by gonorrhea. The incidence of gonorrhea among black, non-Hispanics (788 per 100,000) was 15.6 times higher than the rate among white, non-Hispanics (50.4 per 100,000). Rates among Asian/Pacific Islanders (64 per 100,000), Hispanic, any race (187.8 per 100,000), and American Indian/Alaska Natives (551 per 100,000) were up to 10.1 times higher than among white, non-Hispanic persons. Gonorrhea rates were highest in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul (Table Title). The incidence in Minneapolis (633 per 100,000) was over 1.5 times higher than the rate in St. Paul (428 per 100,000), more than 6 times higher than the rate in the suburban metropolitan area (136 per 100,000), and more than 12.8 times higher than the rate in Greater Minnesota (49.3 per 100,000).
