Statewide Health Care Needs and Capacity Report
Studying the Current and Future Needs of a Statewide Health Care System
In 2024, the Minnesota Legislature tasked the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) with developing a set of recommendation for a future comprehensive evaluation of current and future health care facilities and infrastructure in the state, informed by public input through a Request for Information (RFI) (Laws of Minnesota 2024, chapter 127, article 66, section 23).
MDH recommends that a future study take a broad perspective in defining health systems and provider capacity, ensure stakeholder engagement, use Minnesota-specific data, assess population gaps and future needs, and leverage opportunities for innovation. MDH included in the report eight specific recommendations for conducting such a study.
