Additional Resources

These resources from MDH and other entities can help provide a window into health care spending, access, and affordability for Minnesotans.

Public Use Files on Health Care Services and Utilization from the Minnesota All Payer Claims Database (MN APCD)
Using data from 2013 through 2019, the Minnesota All Payer Claims Database public use files present trends in health care cost, quality, and utilization.

Minnesota All Payer Claims Database (MN APCD) Public Use File Dashboards
The MN APCD Dashboards include medical and pharmacy claims for Medicare, Minnesota Health Care Programs, and most commercial plans. The dashboards do not contain data from uninsured individuals or for health care covered by Tricare, Veterans Affairs, or the Indian Health Service. Dashboards present trends in medical and prescription drug spending, common diagnoses, health care utilization and services, and health care use and spending by provider type and setting.

Minnesota Health Access Survey (MNHA)
The Minnesota Health Access Survey is a large-scale population survey that focuses on information about how Minnesotans access health insurance and health care services. Results from the survey inform policy related to health care access and health insurance for Minnesotans.

Prescription Drug Price Transparency (RxPT)
MDH publishes annual legislative reports and data dashboards on the Prescription Drug Price Transparency (RxPT) website focused on prescription drugs reported to MDH by drug manufacturers and from reference data for drugs that meet reporting requirements. The goals of the initiative are to promote transparency in pharmaceutical pricing in Minnesota, enhance the understanding of pharmaceutical spending trends, and to assist the state and other payers in the management of pharmaceutical costs.

National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP)
The National Academy for State Health Policy (NASHP) is a nonpartisan forum of policymakers throughout state governments, learning, leading, and implementing innovative solutions to health policy challenges. NASHP tracks state legislation and provides other resources on health care affordability.
