HIV/AIDS Statistics - 2025
In 2025, there were 253 newly diagnosed HIV infections reported to MDH. This is a 19% decrease from 2024 (312). While this is a decrease from 2023 and 2024, 253 is on-track with incidence trends from prior to the COVID emergency. In 2016 there were 295 new HIV diagnoses, 279 in 2017, 277 in 2018, and 268 in 2019.
- 68% of new HIV cases affect communities of color.
- Hispanic/Latino males made up 19% of all new diagnoses in MN in 2025. This is similar to 2023 and 2024; while the total number of HIV diagnoses has gone down, the proportion by race/ethnicity remains consistent.
- Incidence rates continue to remain highest among Black African-born (34.3 per 100,000), Black African-American (17.0 per 100,000), and Hispanic (15.8 per 100,000) people. Only 1.8 per 100,000 white people in MN were diagnosed with HIV in 2025.
- In 2025, 72% of all new HIV diagnoses were among people residing in the 7-county Twin Cities metro, and 28% among people residing in Greater MN (counties outside of the 7-county metro).
- The number of people believed to be living with HIV/AIDS in Minnesota is 9,588.
